I design with the awareness of things being impermanent and fluid.

The Japanese call it Mono no aware (物の哀れ).

I’m a product designer, specializing in interaction and service design and a professor at The New School teaching strategic design.

I enjoy solving, fixing, and making things better at work or at home.

OH YES, I love mundane design challenges — how can I solve for my husband not wanting to fold the gazillion pairs of underwear he owns? OR What is the best way to get my mom to use and appreciate an Ipad?

I am a pathological optimist.

A PROUD ACHIEVEMENT

Teaching design thinking

I’m the course lead for the UX/UI certificate program at The New School. Being a craft practitioner, I wanted to “practice what I preach.” I decided to challenge myself to create the course content SOLELY on the basis of Design Thinking principles and methodologies for the program’s portfolio class.

The course modules followed an evolved version of the Double Diamond framework - capture, prioritize, design, and iterate to give structure and provide clarity to the portfolio-making process.

Here’s a peek into the course material for Week 01.

The objective of my course is to help students leverage their rich experiences and find their designer identity.
